Requirements of the musicians in Savore

All musicians involved with Savore must be able to perform improvisation as a standard requirement to be part of the trio.

We are purely instrumental and have endeavoured to create specific feels for the specific styles of Latin we perform: Samba, Bossa, Bolero, Rumba, Cha Cha and Tango.

Each song we play will have a portion of improvisation included to add flavoured contrast and character to the melody and style. Most songs will last from 5 to 10 minutes in duration.

About the musicians in Savore

Owen Thomson

Owen on nylon string guitar is an extraordinary player, capable of performing superb melodies and exhilarating improvisation. He is a master of the guitar and a gifted natural as well as being fully trained with his Masters in Music.

Owen is quick to pick up ideas and make them flow through to his guitar like it is an extension of his soul.

He is adept at sight reading and capable of memorizing a piece of music on the night making it flow as naturally as a river flowing to the sea. You can play a melody line and he will mimic it without hesitation (if requested to do so).

His playing ability is unique and a must to listen to if you find the chance and occasion. www.owenthomson.org

Owen has composed a number of Latin tunes, all of which are performed as repertoire in Savore.

Raju Sharma

Raju on congas is a gifted percussionist/drummer who has been an integral part of Savore keeping the  groove  to enable the guitarists’ freedom to experiment and move around in a piece of music.

Raju is trained on many different types of percussion and drums and is more than capable of performing some stunning solos in the middle of a piece of music and requested to do so by either Owen or Chris.

With Savore he mainly plays congas and uses the instrument to it’s extreme at times that other players would not be capable of doing (or would not think of doing – must be the lateral thinking kicking in).

He will use whatever he needs to bring out an idea or sound, be it tapping on the metal tuning keys of the congas or the metal rim. When you get Raju excited, watch out because he will bring the house down with his superb and exciting ideas and grooves. Well worth his Indian blood in gold.

Chris Gogerly

Chris also on nylon string guitar is one of the founding members of Savore and crossed over to Latin music without looking back when offered the position as guitarist about six years ago.

Chris plays mainly by feel and soaks into the pieces with a smooth laid back feel enticing and also exciting. Of course if the piece is up tempo, Chris will accommodate with his improvisation and create some superb ideas.

Chris has fallen in love with Latin music and (also like Owen) enjoys composing tunes for the trio.
